Projects
Colour makes me happy, especially greens, blues and orange. My favourite pairing, as you've probably noticed, is pink and green. I enjoy crocheting practical items in vibrant hues, and it's even better when I can add a flower or two! Here you’ll find some of the projects I’ve completed over the last three years.
Jumper Dress
I crafted this dress by assembling three sizes of granny squares, inspired by the shape of a beloved jumper dress. Both the granny square patterns and my creative spark came from The Mercerie's Homage to the (Granny) Square blanket pattern but transforming it into a dress was completely my own idea. The entire project took me a year to finish!
Top Down Jumper
This jumper was made from odd balls of single ply yarn, most of it found second-hand with complementary clothes moths! After ditching lots I popped the balls into the freezer to eliminate the pests! The pattern is from Drops, modified to suit my needs. Top and bottom is my favourite yarn, Malabrigo Worsted in Sunset
Floral Cushion Cover
I made this flower inspired cushion cover as a ruby (un)wedding present for friends who were celebrating 40 years together. The pattern is from crochet designer Tash Bentley, modified to make a 16" rather than 12" cushion, using over 250g of yarn! I am so pleased with the result, I can't wait to make more floral inspired cushions!
Magic Circles Scarf
This project took a considerable amount of time, as each circle and semi-circle had to be crocheted separately before being connected to create the scarf. I followed the Magic Circles Crochet Scarf pattern by Janie Crow but chose not to restrict myself to specific colour combinations. In fact, almost every circle is unique!
Christmas Lights
Made from cotton yarn scraps, these were so popular that I created them as gifts. They may be included in a future crochet workshop—stay tuned!
Beaded Garland
I made these from cotton, combining two Janie Crow patterns as a gift. It was my first time adding beads, and I was happy with how it turned out.
Circular Jacket
I wanted to make a circular jacket but couldn’t find an English pattern, so I used a French one instead! While I enjoyed making the sunflowers, I struggled to keep the petals from curling. My most successful outcome was achieved using a diluted PVA glue.
Bench Cushion Cover
I received a box of Scheepjes Cahlista cotton in every shade (that's over 100!) and challenged myself to make this bench cushion cover using as many of them as possible. The back is just as colourful!
Funky Tea Cosy
Surprisingly, there's a teapot beneath this sea anemone-inspired tea cosy, made on commission as a wedding present. The project was a tough one due to the vaguest of pattern instructions, but improvisation led to a successful outcome.
Dishcloths and Flannels
These dishcloths are made from small amounts of aran or double knit cotton and take about 2.5 hours to make. They may be available for purchase - let me know if you're interested. Next time I will make them in a darker colour as my washing machine is not good for keeping things white.
